New Phytowelt team member: Roland Hornung – Head of plant laboratory

We are delighted to announce that Roland Hornung, an expert in plant breeding support, has joined our Phytowelt Team

 

His professional career started at the University of London, where he graduated 1995 with a Ph.D. in Horticulture at Wye College. During the following years he worked at Imperial College at Wye, i.a. heading the Unit for Advanced Propagation Systems and acting as Convenor for the MSc program in Sustainable Production in Tropical Environments. At Selecta Klemm, Dümmen and Iribov SBW he was heading the tissue culture laboratories for many years. He continued to work as a freelancer Senior Consultant and became the Co-Founder of VerdeVitro, a company offering a broad spectrum of tissue culture services.
We are very excited to welcome him now to Phytowelt GreenTechnologies GmbH.

With 25 years of experience in different fields of plant breeding support and production, he enriches Phytowelt’s service portfolio of plant biotechnology () with following methods:

Our annual Plantdustrials Symposium together with IHK Cologne will take place soon!

The 11. Biotech-Symposium „Plantdustrials“ takes place. This year’s focus of Plantdustrials is  „Green Biotechnology: modern plant breeding – romantic agriculture or innovative business?“.
IHK Cologne organises it in cooperation with CLIB 2021, BioRiver as well as assistance of Phytowelt GreenTechnologies GmbH.

It’s a great pleasure to welcome Prof. Dr. Holger Puchta from KIT as keynote: He will show us the beginning of a revolution in plant breeding and what can be expected for future development in plant breeding.

On the 10th “International Conference on Bio-based Materials”, the Innovation Award of “biobased material of the year 2017” took place. Phytowelt is one of the winners 2017 with the chiral raspberry fragrance.

The “International Conference on Bio-based Materials” is a well-established meeting point for companies working in the field of bio-based chemicals and materials. Almost 200 participants, mainly from the industry and representing 25 countries, met in Cologne to discuss the latest developments in the sector.

Third place: Phytowelt GreenTechnologies (DE): High-quality raspberry fragrance with the help of biotechnology

The (R)-alpha-Ionone is the main component of raspberry fragrance. Usually it is synthesized chemically as a racemate which contains the enantiomer (R)-alpha-Ionone as well as the distomer (S)-alpha-Ionone. The (S)-form has a woody and musty flavour which gives the chemical racemate a different and impure fragrance. However, it is complex and uneconomic to separate the two molecules. With its patented process, Phytowelt is now able to produce only the desired (R)-alpha-Ionone. Therefore, the raspberry fragrance is chiral pure, smells intensive and is, because of the biotechnological production, a natural flavour component. It can be used in food, drinks, perfumes, drugs and other applications. This raspberry fragrance is the first natural essence in the market which can be produced in high quantity as well as quality resulting in a high competitive advantage.

Phytowelt reaches the finals: Innovation Award Biobased Materials 2017

Phytowelt GreenTechnologies GmbH reaches the finals of the Innovation Award “Bio-based materials 2017”!

On 10th and 11th May the International Bio-based Conference will take place in Cologne for the 10th time.
One of the agenda items is the ceremony of the Innovation Award on the first conference day. Phytowelt GreenTechnologies GmbH is one of the nominees for the Innovation Award 2017.
6 companies will try to win the award: Most of the products are sustainable materials for different fields. Phytowelt presents an other type of product – the (R)-alpha-Ionone, a raspberry fragrance.
But what makes that raspberry fragrance innovative? It is…
         –    chiral: only the desired (R)-form will be produced. Other raspberry fragrances mostly have the (S)-form too,
              which effects a woody musty smell
         –    natural
         –    high concentrated
         –    sustainable: 1 g of the fragrance saves up to 111 tons of rasberries and about 20 hectars goround
         –    cost-savings
The process is patented by Phytowelt and enables them to produce the raspberry fragrance which is unique worldwide.
